Theatre Planning & Consulting
WJHW's performing arts facility planning services generally begin with programming of auditorium and stage spaces including all relevant adjacency and support spaces. Preliminary auditorium layouts are provided to assist the architect in developing the best possible sight lines and to encourage a close audience/performer relationship. Auditorium studies also assist in planning for code-related review including egress and ADA. WJHW also provides detailed seating drawings and specifications as requested for inclusion in construction document packages.
Stage and back of house planning is necessary to ensure efficient access and accommodation for performers and technicians. Our planning services include particular attention to loading pathways from dock to stage as well as access to overhead catwalks, control, and support spaces for both production and maintenance operations. Specialty space planning for control rooms, orchestra pits, dressing rooms, wardrobe and costume facilities, scenic and prop workshops are included as appropriate to facility type.
