Lighting & Rigging Systems Design
Design of stage rigging and lighting systems is amongst the core theatre consulting services that WJHW provides. The work for both disciplines typically includes preliminary planning and coordination, development of construction documents for inclusion in the bid document package, and construction administration services.
Stage rigging systems generally include all the suspended components within the auditorium and on the stage that are actively used in the course of theatrical production. The manually operated and motorized lineset battens that are used to hang scenery, carry stage drapery, and support theatrical lighting fixtures above the stage are the most common examples of stage rigging we design. Specification of fire safety curtains, integration of orchestra shell systems and layout of stage curtain are also typically part of a stage rigging design.
Theatrical lighting system design includes layout and specification of dimming and control equipment, wiring and pathways, specialty load circuit wiring devices and raceways, and development of a theatrical lighting fixture package. WJHW’s design services for these core theatrical systems require us to provide detailed coordination to the AE-team for location and sizing of equipment rooms, catwalks and over-stage gridiron structures, and electrical and mechanical systems support.
